"I don't eat flowers, better bring food!" My mom used to say that every morning on Mother's Day before dad went to work. Not that she wouldn't appreciate the flowers (if) he brought ones, but then she already had enough flowers in our garden, so we really didn't need to buy them. It was just her way to remind him that she would to take a break on Mother's Day. A break from housework, including cooking! So we usually bought food on Mother's Day instead of flowers.
Now to continue our family tradition, today on Mother's Day or Hari Ibu we gave a day break from cooking to the maids and bought some food. Nothing fancy, or special, just like everyday lunch because we are saving the best menu for Christmas! We didn't even bother to set the table.
The menu for today's lunch are grilled chicken ala East Java with hot sambal and meatballs soup which is perfect for this rather cold rainy day. We also added sambal goreng kentang and tempe goreng.

With a smile on his face, my son and I want to wish all Indonesian mothers out there...
Selamat Hari Ibu!
Enjoy your lunch with your family
Have a great day everyone!
