Mommy Moments: That's His Favorites

mommy moments

Oh it's Friday again, how time flies. I must got carried away with the long holiday this week. Anyway this week theme is about our kid's favorites, any kind of favorites. Very interesting! Here's my entry.

Let's start with food first. Evan loves jelly as his snack or dessert, and his favorite jelly is grandma's homemade. He also likes ice cream, but I already posted many pictures of him eating ice cream, so I won't post it again here.
He was trying to "help" grandma organizing her jelly's packs.
I wonder if his grandma thought the same :)

Next is his fond of pictures hunt, he loves taking pictures. Whenever we forget to keep our camera, he will grab it and start roaming around the house hunting for objects.
The little photographer and his photo result
One his favorite objects is...

...(pardon me ladies) his nanny's a$$. Not that he purposely aiming to it. It's just his nanny always turn around (and runaway) whenever she sees him trying to make a picture of her. So what left on the camera is this... (got plenty of them)

And let's not forget about his all time favorite character, Thomas the tank engine. He basically love everything that has Thomas character on it, not just the engines. Whenever he sees something with Thomas picture on it he will shout, "Look it's Thomas!" What he actually means when saying those three magic words is, "I like it mommy, can I keep it? I promise I will stop begging if I can keep it... and so on" So naturally he has many Thomas collection. It's quite easy to spot Thomas around the house.
When he builds the track, his friend can only watch

Some of his Thomas collection, include Thomas VCD, DVD,story book, musical book, coloring book, sticker book, stationery,
lunch box, pool ball, backpack, alarm clock, coin box, etc
Thomas bed sheet, towel, flip flop, t-shirt,
and his last birthday cake is also Thomas

Lastly is his current favorite question, which is "When the baby will come out mommy?" (He prefer to use "keluar" which means come out rather than "lahir" means born) He asks this question almost everyday even though we already inform him when the baby's due :)
Just 3 weeks away son!
Happy Mommy Moment everybody, and have a great weekend!

Happy 4th Birthday Evan!

Times fly so fast, was it really four years ago when this little babbler came along to our lives? He is four now, a K-1 student and soon he'll become a big brother...
Evan's 4th birthday
The birthday cakes we ordered were delivered to the house at 8AM this morning. He loved it and couldn't keep his hands off of them. So we had to lock the cakes in the fridge, otherwise he would ruin them before his party begins :)

Happy birthday son, we love you and hope you'll enjoy the party later...

Counting Down to His Birthday

Tomorrow is Evan's 4th birthday. As I mentioned earlier we will not have a birthday party at home, only a simple celebration with his classmates on Monday. However we know some of his cousins and friends will still come to the house tomorrow so today we finished up our preparation for his birthday. Here's what we did for his birthday.
Evan's birthday preparation
This year we chose Thomas & Friends as his birthday theme, so we bought small Thomas bags as goodie bags for his cousins, classmates and friends. Inside the bag we put Evan's favorite snack and drink. We had to hide the bags from him though, otherwise he won't stop asking for the snack :)
Thomas mini bag
For his "blow out the candles" moment we ordered a tiramisu birthday cake with Thomas character on it. We also ordered one chocolate cake for his teachers. Some mini cakes were prepared for my office mates. Those cakes will be delivered tomorrow morning, so come back tomorrow if you want to see how they look like :)

For his party at school on Monday, we also ordered lunch box from KFC for his classmates and teachers.

Lastly, for the birthday boy we bought a bicycle with training wheels. He already passed his tricycle stage so it's time for him to learn to ride a bicycle.
birthday presentEnjoy your weekend everybody. I know we will :)

Time To Play Thomas Online

The renovation job in our house has been going on for almost a month now and it may continue for another month until it's completely done. Our house became messy with our things as we moved them around the house. Almost there's no empty space for the little boy to play with Thomas inside the house.

Fortunately, now he can play Thomas on his computer. When we found Thomas the Tank Engine online game, we thought we would allow him temporarily playing Thomas online until he gets his playroom back. It's better that way rather than seeing him creating more mess with his train set.

He really enjoys this new way of playing Thomas. Though there are other popular characters found on that site like Barney, Bob the Builder, Pingu, etc, for him nothing can beat Thomas yet. At first we needed to sit beside him to read the instructions, but after awhile he didn't want our help anymore. He just tried to figure it out by himself.

We have also added some children educational software to his computer so he will not be stuck playing games only. We have Millie's Math House, Sammy's Science House, Trudy's Time and Place House, Bailey's Book House, and Stanley's Sticker Stories, all from Edmark early childhood series. Those software are quite popular among bilingual schools here. We also have some Indonesian software for him too.

Among those programs, Millie's Math House and Sammy's Science House are his favorites. With Millie's Math House he can learn about numbers up to 30 through various activities like making cookies, build a bug, etc. He also learn some basic geometry shape by building a rat house or learn about size by picking up shoes for three different beans. In Sammy's Science House he learns about different kind of animals, season, weather, also sequence by making a movie. We do need to guide him in order to understand the purpose of these activities. However, since he enjoy the music in the program as much as the lessons, sometimes he just navigated through all the activities by himself only to hear the music and sound effect.

I'm not sure how long he will enjoy playing Thomas online or these Edmark programs as he easily gets bored on anything. Do you know other kids educational programs or online games for kids? Thanks for stopping by, have a great day!

Thomas Can Talk!

"Mama, look Thomas can talk!" That was my son's reaction when he watched the new Thomas & Friends DVD High Speed Adventures. At first, he was shocked looking at the new version of Thomas, but then slowly started to enjoy the show. He really had fun watching it, he laughed throughout the movie.

If you familiar with Thomas the Tank Engine, you know that starting last year the show uses new animation style which makes the engines' faces move as they talk. Also there are characters moving around at the background. The show hasn't been aired here, so we have to wait for the DVD release to watch it. Yesterday was the first time for my son to watch the new changes.

High Speed Adventures was the second DVD released from the new Thomas and Friends show. I didn't buy the first DVD, Railway Friends, because of my pro-original Thomas sentiment. As a person who also grew-up with Thomas show, I was one of many fans who disagreed with its new animation style. I even signed the Online Petition to Save Thomas The Tank Engine Model Tradition last year. I wanted the original Thomas! However, when I heard the second DVD being released last month, I was curious and ordered it.

Now after seeing how Evan loves the new version of Thomas, I guess the idea of using CGI animation for the show was not really that bad. So, "Yes son, Thomas can talk now! Hope you enjoy their new adventures."

Have a good day.

Mom, I Need A New Thomas!

Evan and ThomasEvan said that last night, and before I could remind him about how many Thomas he already had, he added, "That one is too heavy, I can't put money inside it anymore." He was talking about his Thomas tin coin bank, phew! I thought it was about another pricey train set. It was funny hearing he said the coin bank was "heavy" instead of "full". But he was right, no more money could be put inside the coin box because it was already full, and it became heavy too.

Thomas was his second coin bank, I gave to him last year. The idea of giving him a piggy bank came when he started receiving money during Aidul Fitri, Christmas or CNY, etc. from relatives or friends. At first I just put all the money in a bank account under his own name and I assured him that his money was safe. However, soon it didn't work anymore. Somehow he found out what he could do with his own money, in his case "being rich" means he could buy chicken porridge or noodle anytime he wanted. He also kept asking he wanted to see his money.

I tried giving him a Mickey Mouse coin bank on his second birthday and asked him to put his money inside it by himself. It worked. Since then he became obsessed of putting his money, plus all other coins he found in the house, to his piggy bank. He never ask about his money anymore because he knows they're in his own coin banks. I guess he has more trust on Thomas and Mickey in keeping his money rather than a bank. I still put the big cash in the bank though, I only allow small money or coins to be put in his coin bank.

Thomas Money Bank
I know we should teach our kid about the value of money as early as possible. I just haven't got there yet, but at least I can hold my son from spending all of his money. He's been learning about saving money at school too. On Fridays the teacher will ask if there any student wants to save some money. He's given a passbook that records his transactions. He still don't understand what's it all about but I think it's a good start to introduce him about savings, at least until I know a better way. In the mean time, his Thomas is already full, so I need to buy a new one :)

Have a great day!
