MM: Welcoming A Baby Brother

mommy moments

It's Friday, time for Mommy Moments again. This week theme is about our kid's experience in welcoming a new sibling. Waiting for a new baby was a bitter sweet experience for Evan. On one side he was excited he knew he would become a big brother. We told him on the day my OB/GYN confirmed my pregnancy. He instantly said he wanted a baby boy. Well, I guess God granted what he wished for.

On the other hand he also began to realize that after over three years of being the center of attraction, now he had to share his fame with his brother. On many occasions I could sense a hint of jealousy on him even before his brother was born. But overall he just couldn't wait to see his brother.

The night before the big day, it was Sunday night, October 4th, I kissed him good bye with a promise that he would see the baby at the hospital in the morning.

The next morning he skipped school and went to the hospital instead. My CS was scheduled at 7AM and I was already inside the OR when Evan came. He spent times playing at the children play area at pediatric section while waiting for my operation.

Unfortunately, the hospital have very strict rules about kids under age. They didn't allow him to see me nor the baby that day. He was so sad, of course, I could hear him crying from the recovery room.

The next day he came again to the hospital after school. This time he was allowed to see both me and the baby. That was the first time he laid his eyes on his brother thru the window at infant room.

The first picture below was taken on the day we brought Eldrick home. Evan was so excited as if he got "a new toy", he spent hours watching his brother. The second picture was taken recently, they still like playing together.

When The Baby Sleeps...

mommy takes pictures...

As a three-week-young baby, he's been developing his own styles of sleeping. Please tell me you like it :)

Our camera is loaded with pictures of him sleeping. Been trying to capture his smiles also but haven't been lucky. So far could only get him sleeping, crying, nursing and bathing. Maybe I need a faster camera.

Nightie Kisses

His newly routine, giving a good night kiss to little brother. At first we were afraid he would disturb the baby. But he did it very gently so he didn't wake his brother up.

Nose to nose, head to head
Sweet dreams lil brother

Learning To Be A Big Brother

Being a big brother for over a week now has made Evan feel he is big and strong enough to take care of his "Dede". He calls his baby brother "Dede", it is a common nick name for baby, or younger sibling here.

Whenever we took his Dede a bath, Evan would say, "Let me do it mommy, I can bath him", or "I can carry him", "Let me dry him", "Let me comb his hair", etc. Sometimes he doesn't understand why his baby brother needs to sleep while he wants to play with him.

We were advised to involve him in taking care the baby so, as the first-born, Evan would not feel being left behind as we're busy with the baby. However, there are things need to be reminded to him. The most important lesson I think is "be gentle to Dede!" As an excited big brother sometimes he got a bit rough and forgot that his Dede is not a toy that he can play with all the time.

Excited to have a baby brother

Thanks for stopping by, have a great day :)

Say Hello To Evan's Baby Brother

After months carrying him inside me, finally our prayers were answered, the baby was born safely on Monday, October 5th through C-section. Here are the pictures from the big day.

Sunday night at 8pm we kissed Evan goodbye as I went to the hospital.

Before checking-in, they ran several tests to make sure I was ready for the C-section the next day

Monday morning at 7am I was brought to the OR

Thirty minutes later the Evan's brother was born

Thursday afternoon we checked-out from the hospital and now the baby's home

Thanks for stopping by everyone. Have a fun Sunday :)
