I Got The PR Back!

As many have predicted Google just updated Page Rank yesterday and I'm extremely happy to see that A Little Boy's Blog now got PR3! Three weeks ago this blog's PR dropped from 2 to unranked after I moved it from blogspot to custom domain. But now the PR is back with an increase, yeay! Now I can put my PR button back, I removed it when it showed gray bar after the moving, lol.

Hope everyone is happy with the recent PR update too :)

Claim Complete

Just got an email from Technorati,

Congratulations, your claim is now complete! Please allow 24 to 48 hours for Authority and recent posts to begin showing for your site now that it has been successfully claimed. Once they are there, we will update your site's Authority once per day...

The claiming process was longer than the first time I registered this blog last year, but much shorter than I expected. I submitted my claim token on the 20th then this morning I got their confirmation email saying they already crawled my token. Later in the evening I saw warning saying that my site description did not cover my content and I had to resubmit it (did they actually read it? or maybe because it was too short). Anyway, I rephrased it and an hour later the email came.

So now I have two claimed blogs...

The first one is this blog using my old blogspot address, which until now is still gaining new authority, and the second one is the same blog using new address. I don't know if this is allowed or not since I couldn't find their rules about changing blog's domain. Will see, if the new claimed blog works fine, I probably will delete my old blog, and kiss my old authority goodbye.

I just wish they work as smart as the same way as Google Webmaster. In Webmaster I didn't need to delete my old blog after I submitted the new one because Google then gradually started to deindex my old pages and index my new pages. Isn't it better that way, so I don't feel like all my hard work gone in one click?

Anyway, enough with the stats!

Kindly approve my new URL. Here's the verification code you asked me to put within my new post XXXXXXXXXX. Can you see it? I'm sure it's also visible on my RSS feed. Doesn't it prove I'm the author of this blog? Can I claim my blog now?

Custom Domain Trouble

Moving from blogspot to Blogger custom domain is supposed to be an easy transition. I've tested it several times on my test blog and everything was fine... until I applied it to my actual blog. It showed 0 comments on all posts! grr...

As I mentioned last week I was just a few clicks away from moving to my own domain. I've set www as CNAME record pointed to ghs.google.com. and ran DIG service to look up information in the DNS. The result showed my domain already pointed to Google server:

So what was wrong? I googled it and apparently this problem already became "a known issue" on Blogger:

Some users are experiencing comment count discrepancies on their blog, specifically for older comments during the December-January timeframe. We have isolated the underlying problem though, and are working to release a fix shortly.

Also, if you have recently switched hosting from BlogSpot to a custom domain, it may take up to a few hours before the counts are synced completely (and this is expected). — latest update on Sunday, March 07, 2010

After more than 24 hours since the switching without progress (my old comments haven't showed up), this morning I switched back to blogspot, exported this blog to XML file and switched back to new domain. So to all of you who commented here, do not worry, your comments are save in my disk. I can restore them later should this problem continue.

I will wait for a few days (at least until weekend) to give time for Blogger to sync properly before deciding what to do. Meanwhile, I'm also preparing a WordPress blog for this blog so in case I can't get my comments back on Blogger I will transfer it to WordPress. Ironic, isn't it?

Update @7:40 PM:
Everything is fine now, I can see all comments are back. Maybe the process took longer than I thought. So if you experience similar thing when switching to custom domain, try to be more patient and don't hit the panic button too quickly like I did :)

Or you can try to switch back to blogspot then republish on custom domain again. I'm not sure if it can speed up the process but that's what I did this morning so who knows...

A New Home

We're moving to a new home soon!

 

It's not really new actually considering I have owned it for almost a year now but keep delaying to use it for various reasons. Now everything is settled and so ready to move.

We're just a few clicks away from our new home. It's going to be a seamless transition (hopefully) and you probably won't notice the difference. You'll find the same look and the same structure. The only notable change is the address on top of your browser. You don't need to do anything to change it either because even if you click the old address, our friend Blogger will redirect you here.

So if everything is the same why do I need to make a post about this move? Well, I'm not sure, maybe once I publicly announce it I won't delay it again :D

It's Been Awhile...

...since I updated this blog :D

Having bad internet connection for the last couple of weeks due to heavy rain had stripped off my blogging appetite. I really couldn't rely on my HSDP connection during bad weather. It became very slow! Anyway, yesterday we installed cable internet, so now we have two ISP in our house, wired and wireless. Hopefully, I can start my blogging and dropping routine again soon!

Time To Change Again

As the Christmas season is over, I'm going to make some changes on layout. Not major changes, just some colors adjustments. Hopefully it will be finished by tonight.

Just Renewed My Ad On Adgitize

I just renewed my ad on Adgitize last night. I didn't know my ad would expire very soon, tomorrow to be exact, until I checked my email. I have one email account that I use specifically for affiliate purpose and I hardly open it lately. Lucky I opened it last night so I knew it was time to extend my ad. And I also received an email from CMF about my account report. It's an interesting report, very detail! I didn't know there's such kind of report from CMF before. I really should check that email more often from now on.

Anyway, back to my Adgitize ad, so far I'm quite satisfied with my ad performance. It gives a steady traffic everyday except on weekends or holidays when the overall traffic usually drop. But then when I look at myself, I too don't spend much time online on weekends or holidays so lesser traffic on those days is reasonable enough for me.

I have to admit last month I was a bit skeptical to extend my December ad with the new (but now it already became old) ad price. But now that Adgitize already rolled back its price to $14, I didn't see any reason not to extend it. Besides even with $24 price on December, I still managed to cover the cost with my earnings plus some extra bucks :). I could have earned more if I didn't miss some points for a few days. Well, it was a holiday season so there were time when I was away from internet.

However, If I calculate even further, with extra free 22 days ad extension for advertisers who paid $24 last month, the profit I got on December is much greater than what's stated on my PayPal report. I'm sure everyone is as happy as I am with Adgitize :)

A New Look!

The holiday season is here, and I' was in the mood for some Christmas decorations last night. I decided to start with decorating my blog first as it's a lot easier to do than decorating the house. Not a total blog makeover, only change the header and color combination to match the Christmas theme. So if you happen to be around when I was still working on it, sorry if it disturbed you :)

As for the house, I'm planning on buying some new Christmas items soon, hopefully sometime before Christmas, as the ones we have are already too old. Hope you all enjoying this coming holidays.

New Widget Installed

Noticed the new toolbar at the bottom? No? Just give a little time for it to fully load (unless you're in a hurry you can just drop and run, lol).

Anyhow, I've been eying for this widget since the first time I saw it on some blogs while doing my dropping routine a few weeks back. Finally I managed to install it yesterday. It contains some interesting features like online games, Facebook connect, Twitter, etc. Haven't enabled all available features though, will try them later and see if they slowing down my page load. We still in long Idul Fitri holiday here so I have time to tweak this blog.

New Blogger Post Editor

Blogger just released new post editor. Not sure when exactly it was released, I hardly check on Blogger updates. To change your current post editor just go to Dashboard - Settings and scroll down to Global settings section and choose updated editor. Save your settings and voila done!

What I like the most from this update is the way they handle images. It's easiear to move images anywhere within the post. Before I had to cut and paste the images html code, now I can just click and drag them :) Also they give a better post preview now. Before they gave almost a full screen preview, now the size of the preview window is almost the same as we'll see on the blog.

On This First Blogoversary...

First of all, "Happy Blogoversary to me!" (Thanks to the Blogoversary button for reminding it.) It's been a great year since the first post of this blog. We were rearranging our family photos, Evan's photos to be exact, when the idea of making a blog came up. We had taken so many pictures to capture the important moments of Evan, but after a period of time we often forgot a little story behind those pictures. Writing those stories on a blog seemed like a good idea, so we started this blog.

This blog last year

Then the blog started to grow, we got visitors from all over the world (97 countries so far). People started to say hello and leave comments. Also Google came back with PR2 on April after took away our PR1 on December without saying anything (where's your manners Mr. G!). Alexa rank raise to 83,399 thanks to Entrecard and Adgitize. I don't really care about PR nor AR (anymore), but it still feels good to see them growing :)

This blog now

I think the biggest challenge in maintaining this blog is to keep focus on its original purpose: to share a glimpse of Evan's life. Many times I was tempted to post about other thing but then it didn't seem right to me, so we're back focusing on our little boy, who's within three months going to be a big brother (do I need to change the blog's title?), and will keep it that way.

On this first anniversary, let me share this Spread the Love award I got from Tetcha of Pensive Thoughts. Thanks for the award Tetcha, it fits the event.

Some Updates

It's been a week since my last post now, and my mood for blogging is still gone with the weather (yes, I blame it on the weather, don't expect me to confess my laziness here). With the stormy weather we had almost every night I hardly could go online using my DSL connection. And whenever I could I usually just did my dropping round as fast as I could (yes, I might cause your bounce rate increased for the last few days).

Anyway, enough with excuses, these are some updates I want to share:

This week I decided to join Adgitize, I've seen many Entrecarders also have it in their blogs and I thought I would give it a shot. So if you have Adgitize, please scroll down to my lower bar to find it. I probably will add another one near my EC card to make it easier to be found. So far I can see my traffic is increasing since I join Adgitize and I hope more bloggers with Alexa will visit my blog to help my rank going up, it's been flat at 243.xxx for months. That's all I can say about Adgitize for today (mentioning it four times in one post is enough).

My EC cash out application has been awaiting for weeks now and I'm beginning to feel that they won't approve it at all. Even though my reason of joining EC was not for money (there was no paid ads at the time I joined btw), but I wouldn't mind if they want to share it with me :). Now I'm stuck with over 10000 credits on my account and don't know what to do with them. I visited their market but nothing really interest me there yet, maybe I'll check again later.

Today is Waisak Day, it's a Buddhist holiday and also a public holiday here in Indonesia, so Selamat Hari Waisak and enjoy your weekend (whether you celebrate it or not).

Tomorrow some countries will celebrate Mother's Day (Indonesian Mother's Day is on December 22nd), so Happy Mother's Day to all fellow mothers.

The picture above is one of my favorite pictures of Evan taken last year at Anyer Beach. He looks so innocent in this picture. I used it for my header for months before I redesigned it to current comic style header. As he gets bigger now it's hard to make him stand/sit still when taking his pictures, he'll tell us what to do instead.
